Reflection 1/24

Today in class, we were working on a group project and reading. Our group just read, discussed, and hung out. Any time we do group work, I usually do not like it; things are just usually more difficult in groups, but today was pretty good. I was able to get almost all of my work done, which was nice because I hate homework. Now I'm just waiting for the weekend.

Reflection 1/23

Today in class, we started presenting our one-pagers. As we were presenting, Mr. Rease wanted us to focus on a specific sexual scene, which made me pretty angry. I am very appreciative of reading books with disturbing and controversial content. I love it, but there is a particular way they should be taught to educate students without making anyone uncomfortable. Personally, if I were the teacher and wanted to discuss this, I wouldn't have the students read explicit parts of the class and continuously ask for specific words to describe the content. Even though I am not the teacher, the class made me uncomfortable, and I wish everyone was mature enough to talk about the sexual content of a book without students feeling unsafe and uneasy.

The Sorrow of War: One-Pager

 One-Pager

Reflection 1/22

Today in class it we continued to read our pages and work on our one-pager. I love in class reading, there’s something very nostalgic about it to me. In middle school we read books, in and out of class, did discussion questions and a couple prefects surrounding the book. Simple times. I do love just sitting with my friends and we read and talk about the book we’re reading, sometimes class feels like a book club and I love it.

Reflection 1/17

Today in class we were going over an interview of Dr. King speaking about his I Have  A Dream speech. I've watched the I Have A Dream speech about 11 times in school, so class today was very familiar. One of the things that had me thinking was King's intentions with his speech and how it was perceived by the public. King wanted to wake everyone up to fight for the civil rights movement and increase awareness. This was not the reality of the outcome, but I often think about what King would say about our current stance on civil rights. I hope he's not too disappointed by certain aspects of our community; we can all work towards his goals.
